Spring has Sprung – A Confession

Springtime is here, and if you’re like me you’re ready for some warmer weather. I can’t wait for our office move to finally be finished, so I can have some extra time to mess around in my yard. I have lots of re-planting to do and some outdoor projects that I can’t wait to get started. But…with each change of season and holiday, comes a small secret guilt I carry. I must confess: I hate decorations, of any sort, of any kind. I can’t stand ceramic Santas, stuffed Easter bunnies and you’ll never see a cornucopia on my table as a centerpiece in fall. I feel so badly about this because I’m a mother and I feel like I need to make things festive around my house during different times of the year. I’ve found the only way I can get around this horrible bah humbug challenge of mine is to decorate simply – using color. So, today is the day I’ll get out my vintage citron and grey tablecloth. I’ll bring out my aqua kitchen tea towel and replace some of the pottery on my mantle with some colorful vintage planters. I know, I’m awful. Here are some great spring accessories I’ve found for sale on Etsy, just in case there’s another horrible mother like me out there somewhere 🙂

By the way, I’ll be having my Sunday dinner tomorrow night. I’ll be posting pics and my recipe on Monday (time permitting).

Have a great weekend!

Old & (some) New

If you’re like me and have budget limitations when designing a space, this post is for you. We all lust after those special original pieces from the era when form finally met function. Sure, I’d love to have 2 Finn Juhl arm chairs flanking my fireplace and a vintage flokati rug that’s never been stepped upon. I’d kill to have a Paul McCobb teak sofa in my living room and Bertoia wire chairs on my back deck, but the truth is:  I just can’t have everything I want. Unless you’re privileged enough to have a black American Express card, chances are at some point or another you’re going to have to incorporate some new pieces in with the classic beauties we crave.  The trick is to make your hard-earned dollars really count. These rooms display a great mixture of old and (some) new.

Pinch Me I’m Dreaming (about lighting)

There was no rest for the weary this weekend. The upcoming move to our new office is quickly approaching and we’ve been packing and cleaning like crazy. Lauren and Lexi had friends over all weekend, so I was a short order cook, as well . Yesterday was my father’s 60th birthday and my mother hosted a fun little party in his honor on Saturday night.  Needless to say, we didn’t have our typical Sunday Dinner yesterday, because things were too hectic. I’ve been day dreaming about lighting (or hallucinating about lighting because I’m high from the Sharpie fumes that I’m labeling all these damn boxes with).
